Plans to recreate the bubble experiment fell through, although a second attempt will be made later this year.

Re the powers of the fork/spoon, I remember my Grandmother also adhering to this philosophy. It made me wonder whether the story arose because cutlery all used to be silver? My knowldedge of the reactive powers of stainless steal vs. siver is limited so I'm just throwing the idea out there.

Thank you so much, Rob. I couldn't do the Science Dude stuff without you. I had no idea about Ada Lovelace Day. I've been so busy actually doing science that I've failed to notice much else lately. I think I celebrated by uh... working on some papers, and discussing the microbial communities that live in peoples noses. I kid you not.

But seriously, no one does this stuff alone. I could never put out the Science Dude podcasts without Rob (who also deals with the webpage) and Heidi, who helps me plan out most of the episodes. So a extra-giant thank you for the support that lets me just get on with being Science Dude. I hope that the show is reaching people, including young women. I also hope that I will actually see the day when feminism goes a long enough way (baby) that women scientists are no longer a minority and when the achievements and contributions of women are recognized and valued as much as those of men. I want it to be unremarkable that the co-host of a science show is a young, queer woman and also unremarkable that many of the heads of major science departments, labs, and journals are women (please? someday?). One day, I hope to just be a woman who happens to do science, and not a "woman scientist". Until then, happy Ada Lovelace day to all the women out there doing science, and to all the girls who want to!

Hey Science Dude! I can't resist... there is another really good reason not to use antibacterial soap, particularly soap containing triclosan: a bunch of evidence has come out recently showing that triclosan builds up in the environment and can bioaccumulate in wildlife. For example, it was recently found in the blood plasma of bottlenose dolphins living off the Atlantic coast of North America (Patricia A. Fair, et al. 2009. Environmental Pollution, 157: 2248-2254). It has also been found in human breast milk (Mats Allmyr, et al. 2006. Science of The Total Environment, 372: 87-93). If triclosan doesn't have any measurable positive effect, as your podcast points out, then let's stop using it!

Hey Vera, thanks for listening and wanting to share the show with others. Unfortunately I do not know of anyway to translate the show into any other language than the one that we record it in. I'm sorry. :(

Loved it! Like Rob, I have been trying to get information on these things but everything out there is so skewed and biased. It's great to get that scientist's perspective in language that a layperson like myself can understand, thanks :)
